Toxicological Testing
Formaldehyde
Recognized as a strong allergen (Class A according to DIMDI), it is subject to restrictions and bans in cosmetic products under current cosmetic regulations. One of these regulatory parameters concerns labeling: any cosmetic product containing formaldehyde at concentrations exceeding 500 ppm (i.e., 0.05%, w/w) must display the warning "contains formaldehyde" on its label.
Therefore, special attention must be paid to finished products that contain preservative systems known as "formaldehyde releasers" as well as packaging materials in contact with the formula, which may also contain formaldehyde.
